Jerusalem 1500 is a cable message that was sent in May 1978 from the United States Consulate General in Jerusalem to the United States Department of State in Washington, D.C. reporting abusive methods allegedly used systematically by Israeli authorities to interrogate Palestinian detainees in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Along with a subsequent cable, Jerusalem 3239, Jerusalem 1500 became the subject of controversy when its contents became public in February 1979.^[1] Originally classified "confidential," the cable was declassified in 2008 and released in full in 2009 pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request.^[2]
