Coll., Camb., 1855, an advocate of supreme court of Cape Colony 1860, a member of Cape Legislative Assembly 1864-9, acting solicitor-general 1867-8, recorder of High Court of Griqualand 1871-8, and twice administrator of that government, a judge of supreme court of Cape Colony 1878-80, a student of the Inner Temple 2 Nov., 1855 (then aged 23), called to the bar 17 Nov., 1858 (2nd son of Joseph Barry, member of council of Cape of Good Hope); born , 1832; married , 1867, Charlotte, dau. of Rt. Rev. Nathaniel James Merriman, late bishop of Grahamstown.
