Mathew, (Hon.) Sir James Charles, a justice of the High Court of Justice, Queen's Bench Division, since 1881, knighted 1 April 1881, hon. LL.D., Trin. Coll., Dublin, 1881, B.A. 1850 (gold medallist), master of the rolls Ireland, a student of Lincoln's Inn 6 June, 1851 (then aged 20), studentship Nov., 1853, called to the bar 26 Jan., 1854, bencher 26 April, 1881 (eldest son of Charles Mathew, Esq., of Lehenagh House, co. Cork); born 10 July, 1830; married Dec, 1861, Elizabeth, dau. of Rev. Edward Biron, vicar of Lympne, Kent, and has issue.
