Smith, Philip Vernon, M.A., late fellow King's Coll., Camb., 1869, author of History of the English Institutions, assistant editor of The Revised Statutes, contributor to The Chronological Table and Index of Statutes, educated at Eton (Newcastle medallist), B.A., thirty-seventh wrangler, senior classic, and first chancellor's medallist King's Coll., Camb., 1866, a student of the Inner Temple 12 April, 1866 (then aged 21), called to the bar 30 April, 1869 (eldest son of George James Philip Smith, Esq., a master of the supreme court); born 14 Jan., 1845; married 13 Aug., 1878, Edith Frances, only dau. of Admiral Stoddart.
