Smyth, (Hon.) John Watt, a justice of the supreme court of the Punjab since 1880, acting judge thereof 1877–80, entered Bengal C.S. 1857, deputy commissioner of the districts of Amritsar and Lahore, additional commissioner of the Amritsar and Jullundur districts, and commissioner of the Lahore district, matric. at Queen's Coll., Belfast, a student of Lincoln's Inn 14 April, 1864 (then aged 27), certificate of honour 1st class May, 1871, called to the bar 17 Nov., 1871 (2nd son of John Smyth, of Larne, co. Antrim, merchant); born 1 March, 1836; married 14 Sept., 1871, Annabel Charlotte, 2nd dau. of Rev. and Hon. Henry O'Brien (see Foster's Peerage, B. Inchiquin).
