MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Denver, Colorado

Monday, October 3, 1927.

1. President L. D. Blauvelt presided and all members of the Committee were present.
2. The Special Committee appointed at the May meeting in Chicago to report on needed changes in the Constitution and By-laws of the Association made its recommendations, which were approved and the Committee authorized the presentation of this report to the Association for adoption
   Consideration of requests for additional United States numbered routes resulted in approval of the following:
3. KENTUCKY - A road from the bridge opposite Portsmouth, Ohio, via Greenup, Ashland, Louisa, Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Pickeville, Whitesburg, Harlan to a connection with United States No. 25 at Pineville. This route will be a continuation of United States No. 23, and is approved. for numbering and mapping when the road has been put in condition for travel.
4. KENTUCKY, TENNESSEE - A route from Lexington, Nicholasville, Lancaster, Stanford, Somerset, Whitley City, Pine Knot to the Kentucky-Tennessee State line south of Pine Knot, and from the Kentucky-Tennessee State line south Pine Knot via Oneida, Sunbright, Wartsburg, Harriman, Rockwood, Dayton to Chattanooga, Tennessee. This route will de given the. No. 27.
   The following requests for additional numbered routes were disallowed:

TENNESSEE - ALABAMA - GEORGIA - FLORIDA - From Murfreesboro by Shelbyville, Fayetteville, Tennessee; Huntsville, Guntersville, Albertville, Boas, Gadsden, Anniston, Talladega, Sylacauga, Godwater, Kellyton, Alexander City, Dadeville, Camp Hill, Waverly, Opelika and Phoenix, Alabama; Columbus, Cusseta, Richland, Dawson, Albany, Sylvesta, Moultrie, Quitman, Georgia; to Madison, Florida; and from Leesburg, Florida, via Haines City, Lake Wales, Avon Park, Sebring, Lake Annie, Okechobee to Fort Pierce, Florida.
6. GEORGIA - From Athens, Georgia via Eatonton, Irwinton, Dublin, Haselhurst, Alma to Waycross.
7. GEORGIA - From Columbus to Dublin via Cusseta, Ellaville, Oglethorpe, and Hawkinsville.
8. NEW MEXICO - TEXAS - From Roswell, Carlsbad, New Mexico; via Pecos, Texas to Alpine.
9. NEW MEXICO - ARIZONA - From Springerville, Arizona; via Hutrioso, Alpine, Luna, Glenwood, Silver City, Deming to Columbus, New Mexico.
10. OREGON - NEVADA - CALIFORNIA - From Klamath Falls, Oregon; via Susanville, California; Reno, Nevada; and Bishop, California, to Los Angeles, with an alternate route via Wellington and Mina, Nevada.

The Committee adjourned until Noon, October 6th.

MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Thursday Noon, October 6, 1927.

1. President Blauvelt presided, all members of the Executive Committee were present.
   The following applications for additional United States numbered routes were, approved:
2. KANSAS - OKLAHOMA - A road beginning at United States No. 81 at South Haven, Kansas, to a junction with United States No. 77 near Three Sands, Oklahoma. This route is given the No. 177.
3. MISSISSIPPI - Extension of United States No. 49 was granted from Jackson north to Clarksdale. The Complete description of United States 49 hereafter shall he as follows; From Clarksdale via Greenwood, Yazoo City, Jackson, Hattiesburg to Gulfport, all within the State of Mississippi.
4. IDAHO - An alternate route for United States No. 95 which shall be known as United States No. 95 East was granted, description to be as follows; From Coeur d'Alene via Harrison, St. Maries, Mashburn, Emida, Harvard to a junction with United States No. 95 at Potlatch.
5. The Highway Departments of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas requested an extension of No. 63 south from Pierre, South Dakota, via Springview, Ansley, Kearney, and Alma, Nebraska; Norton, United States No. 36, east of Colby, Scott City, Garden City, to a junction with United States No. 54, north of Liberal, Kansas. This request was deferred for future consideration.
6. The Kansas Highway Commission presented a request for a United States number to be given State Highway No. 12 in Kansas making a junction with Springfield, Missouri, on the east and Two Buttes, Colorado on the west. This request was not made by either Missouri or Colorado. This request was deferred for future consideration.
7. The State Highway Department of Ohio presented a request for an alternate route on United States No. 5O between Athens, Ohio, via Marietta, Ohio, St. Mary's, West Virginia, to Ellenboro, West Virginia. This request was deferred for future consideration.
8. On motion a special committee was ordered to take up the matter of adoption of uniform symbols and legends in the preparation of State Highway road maps. This committee is composed of Frank Page, North Carolina, Chairman, J. N. Mackall, Maryland and E. H. James, Bureau of Public Hoads. This committee is to report at the mid-year meeting of the Executive Committee.
9. On motion a special committee was ordered to take up the matter of publishing in book form the history and accomplishments of the Association brought about through the work of the standing committees and convention activities. This committee to have estimates and plans ready for the mid-year meeting of the Executive Committee. The committee appointed for this purpose is H. S. Fairbank, Bureau of Public Roads, Chairman, Frank T. Sheets, Illinois, H. C. Shirley, Virginia, C. D. Buck, Delaware and H. C. Markhiam, Executive Secretary.
10. On motion a committee was ordered to draft a formal declaration of the policy of the Association pertaining to the endowment of the Association. This committee to report its action for approval at the mid-year meeting of the Executive Committee. The Committee appointed for this purpose is Frank T. Sheets, Illinois, Chairman, Fred B. White, Iowa, and W. W. Mack, Delaware.
