Mr. F. G. Dalgety emigrated to Sydney in 1834, being then sixteen years of age, and entered the office of Messrs. Joseph Barrow, Montefiorc and Company, merchants in Sydney, where he received his mercantile education. In 1842, he went to Melbourne and opened a mercantile firm under the style of Griffiths, Borradaile and Company, and on the retirement of ]li G. U. Griffiths in 1845, he became the senior partner, when the style of the firm became Dalgety, Borradaile and Goll. In 1854, in conjunction with Mr. F. A. Du Croz, he opened a house in Loudon, in connection with branches in Australia, New Zealand and Tasmauia, under the style of Dalgety and Company, which firms were converted into a limited liability company m April, 1884, under the style of Dalgety and Company, Limited, of which company Mr. F. G. Dalgety was chairman. He was also chairman of the British, and Australasian Trust and Loan Company, deputy chairman of the New Zealand Trust and Loan Company, and a director of the Union Bank of Au.stralia. Mr. Dalgety d. 20th March, 1894. Htncngf. This family is of Scottish origin. John Dalqett, of Miklens, in the parish of Rescobie, co. Forfar, K.B., m.
