ARTHUR JAJIES OGILVY, of Inverquliarity, Riclmiond, Tasmaniii, J.P. aud coroner, h. 15th April, 1834 ; m. 8th August, 18G1, Hilary Camilla Lnetitia, eldest daughter of William Needham, of Lenten House, co. Nottingham, England, by Camilla Anne Bosanquet, his wife, and by her (who d. at Invei-quharity, 14th May, 1891, aged 60) has issue, I. Kenneth Arthur, h. ITtli July, 1863. I. Mary Louisa. u. The family of Ogilvt derives its origin from the Mormaers of Angus, one of the seven great hereditary chiefs of Scotland, ■who in the 11th centnry exchanged that des- ignation for the title of earl. OiLiBRiDE, Earl of Angus in the time of Datid I had with other issue, three sous, Angus, his successor in that earldom ; Magnus, who through his niolhcr s. to the earldom of Caithness; and GiLiiEnr. The third son, Gilbert, assumed the surname of Ogilvt from lands so called in his possession, of which, with Powrie and Kjncithcin in Angus, he had a charter in 1172. From him descended , Sir Patrick Ogiltt. of Wester Powrie, who had from Egbert I a charter of Kct- tins in Forfarshire. He had two sons, I. Alexaxder, his heir, a quo the family of Ogiltt, of Oyj/r?/, extinct ; ii. PATKirK. The younger son, Patrick Ogiltt, of Wester Powrie, obtained from his nephew, Sir Patrick Ogilvy, of Ogilvy, to him and Marjory his wife, the lands of Wester Powrie. J-iy mar- riage with this Marjory, daughter and event- ually heiress of Eobert Eamsat, of Auchter- house, he had a son, Walter Ogilvt, of Wester Powrie and Auchterlioiise, hereditjiry sheriff of Forfar, lo which estate and oH'ice he succeeded on the death of his uncle, Sir Malcolm Ramsay,. circa 1365. He had two sons, Alexander, who d. unm., and AValter. The younger, Sir Walter Ogiltt, of Auchterhouse, sheriff of Forfar, was a man of great worth and merit, and lost his life in tlu' following manner : — Duncan Stewart, natural son of Alexander, Earl of Buchau, Macdonell.
