Sir George Innes was educated at King's School, Parramatta ; was called to the bar, at Lincoln's lun, 17th November, 1859 (first certificate of honour. May, 1859), and admitted to the New South Wales bar, 28th February, 1863 ; district judge of Queensland, 1865-9 ; elected a member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wale.=, March, 1872, and in October following was called to the Legislative Council, where he represented the Government, and on the Parkes administration leaving office in February, 1875, he was elected chairman of committees of the Legislative Council, to which position he was continuously re-elected until his acceptance of the office of minister of justice in 1880. He was solicitor- general of New South Wales, 1872-3 ; attorney-general, 1873-5 ; minister of justice, lSSO-1 ; and was appointed puisne judge of the Supreme Court
