The eldest son,

Lieutenant-Colonel George Grey, of the 30th Regiment, who distinguished himself in the Egyptian campaign and in the Peninsular war, where he was killed at the storming of Badajos, in command of his regiment, which was attached to the fifth division, on the 6th April, 1812, in the thirty-third year of his age. He was b. 1779, m. Elizabeth Anne, daughter of the Rev. John Vignoles, of Portarlington (see family of Vignoles above), and by her (who m. secondly, 10th March, 1817, the Rev. Sir John Godfrey Thomas, Bart., and d. 5th May, 1851, leaving issue, by both marriages) Lieutenant-Colonel Grey had one son and two daughters,

I. Anne Elizabeth, b. at Cornahir, co. Meath, 24th October, 1809, m. at Bodiam, Sussex, 26th March, 1832, the Rev. George Vigne, of Tillingham, Essex, and by him (who was b. 2nd September, 1806, and d. 15th June, 1852) had issue,

1. Sibella Elizabeth, b. at Great Easton, Leicestershire, 18th March, 1833, d. unm.

2. Julia Maria, b. at Tillingham, 1st September, 1834.

II. Eliza, b. at Gibraltar 1810, d. at Lisbon, August, 1811.

Arms—Barry of six arg. and az. in chief three pellets and label of three points erm.

Crest—An unicorn passant erm. armed, maned, tufted and unguled or, in front of a sun in splendour.

Motto—Stabilis.

Residence—Auckland, New Zealand.

NAIRNE GUTHRIE ELDER, of Kurrnc-a-Ruc and The Meadows, Rokewood, Victoria, J. P. since 1869, b. 19th July, 1837; m. 3rd March, 1863, Jessie, daughter of John McCraw, of Edinburgh, Scotland, merchant, and has had issue,

I. John Nairne, b. 1st January, 1865; m. at St. Kilda Presbyterian Church, 3rd April, 1889, Helen Somerville, second daughter of Robert Gillespie, of Corny, Brighton Road, St. Kilda.

II. William, b. 23rd September, 1866.

III. Nairne Guthrie, b. 11th November, 1869.

IV. David Aitchison, b. 16th March, 1878.

I. Annie Love, b. 14th December, 1863; m. at The Meadow, Rokewood, 27th August, 1890, Rev. Joseph Ringland Anderson, M.A., of Penshurst, Victoria.

II. Mary, b. 3rd March, 1875; d. 5th May, 1882.

III. Jessie Victoria, b. 10th December, 1882.

Lineage.

This family is of Scottish origin.

William Elder, by Elizabeth Nairne, his wife, had a son,

John Elder, of Kurrac-a-Ruc, Rokewood, Victoria, m. at Edinburgh, 1832, Mary Aitchison, who d. Angust, 1875. He d. February, 1870, having had issue,
