April, 1632, Lady Mary Keith, eldest daughter of William, sixth Earl Marischal, and Joined the great Montrose, with four hundred royalists, in August, 1644, just before the battle of Tippermuir, but was murdered with "two Irish rebels at the Kirk of Collace," three or four days afterwards, in September of that year, by his friend and companion, James Stewart, of Ardvoirlich. The melancholy fate of this gallant young cavalier, and the singular circumstances attending the birth and history of his murderer (who was pardoned by parliament in 1645), are the facts on which Sir Walter Scott has founded his beautiful "Legend of Montrose." Lord Kilpont, thus dying in the lifetime of his father, left issue,

I. William, who s. his grandfather as second Earl of Airth and eighth Karl of Monteith, b. before January, 1614, m. first, Anne Hewes, and secondly, Catherine, second daughter of Thomas Bruce. of Blairhall, which lady d. in 1693. Being without issue, he disposed of his property to his kinsman, the Marquess of Montrose, and his nephews Sir George Allardice and Sir John Graham, of Gartmore. He d. s. p. 12th September, 1694 since when his titles have remained dormant.

I. Mary, of whom presently.

II. Elizabeth, m. 1663, her kinsman. Sir William Graham, of Gartmore, first Baronet, and d. 1672, having by him, who d. in December, 1684, had issue, now extinct (see Burke's Baronetage).

The elder daughter,

Lady Mary Graham, m. at Arbuthnot, 8th October, 1662 (contract dated 26th September), Sir John Allardice, of Allardice, knight, chief of an ancient family (which had been proprietors of the barony of Allardice, in Kincardineshire, since the reign of King William the Lion, in the twelfth century), and d. 1720 (buried 2nd December in that year), having by him, who d. April, 1676 (will dated 27th January, 1676) had issue,

I. John, of Allardice, baptised at Arbuthnot. 6th August, 1667, m. 23rd or 28th October, 1690, at the same place (contract dated 17th October), Elizabeth, daughter of William Barclay, laird of Bahmakewan, and d. December, 1690, leaving no issue by her (who m. secondly—Wood, of Drumlagair, and by him had three daughters).

II. George (Sir), of whom presently.

I. Mary, m. Sir Alexander Ogilvy, Baronet, of Forglen.

II. Helen, who d. unm. in 1743.

III. Anna, m. John Gordon, of Breakley.

IV. Margaret, b. 1673.

The younger son,

Sir George Allardice, of Allardice, knight, b. 17th August, and baptised at Arbuthnot, 27th August, 1072, M.P. for Kintore, and Muster of the Mint, was served heir to his father and brother 14th October, 1697, m. Lady Ann Ogilvie, cUlest duuglitcr of James, third Karl of Findlater, and d. in his mother's lifetime, and was buried at Arbuthnot, 17th October, 1709, leaving issue, I. Ja.mes, his heir. II. W illiam, b. 17th December, 1700, d. young. Ili. John, baptised llth December, 1701. I. Anna, b. 1695. II. Helen, h. 1697. III. Katherine, ft. l.")th October, 1699. IV. Elizabeth, b. 5lh Octuber, 1703; buried Sih May, 1705. V. Mary, m. Andrew Hay, of Mount Blairy, and had issue. The eldest son, James Ahaedice, of Allardice, h. and baptised at Arbuthnot, 25th July, liiiig. had a charter of resiiination, 27th July. 1719, m. (contract dated 31st .May) 1720, Mary, daugh- ter of Kobcrt MiLNi:, of Balwyllie, and was buried 21sl May, 172,S, leaving issue, I. Jame.-:, iiis heir. II. Mary, m. James Macdonalp, sheriff substitute of Kincardiueshiie, and d. in 1802 or 1803, leaving issue, from ■whom descend the fanuly of Ooilvvo/" Ins/iewan, co. Forfar (see BuRhE's Landed Gentry). The son, James Aliaedick, of Allardice, A. 291 h January, 1727, at Arbuthnot, had a chai-ter of the barony of Allardice, as only son, 2(itli July, 1748. He m.
