In November, I860, he was returned without opposition for Tumut, in Legislative Assembly in September, 1881, he was appointed clerk to the Executive Cs.;uncil, then a political office without a seat in the Cabinet. He resigned his seat for Tumut in 1863, and contested successfully the electorate of Orange against Sir Jame.s
