years. She was the last of the Macedonian dynasty. At seventy-six years of age she named an emperor. It was Michael Stratiotikos, an old decrepit general. He succeeded, under the title of Michael VI. He was speedily deposed, and was allowed to retire to his own private house, where he died a year or two later.
