Genre and portrait painter, pupil of Ber- lin Academy ; visited Franco and Italy in 182C-29, Italy again and England in 1831- 35, France and Spain in 1850-53 ; became member of Berlin Academy in 1837, and professor in 1844 ; excelled in female portraits.
