born in Amsterdam in 1809, died at Utrecht,
April 3, 1866. Marine painter, pupil of
Westenberg and Pieneman; painted landscapes
in France in 1827-31; lived at Deventer,
Holland, in 1833-39; removed in
1841 to Paris, where after 1842 he exhibited
numerous works. Medals: Paris, 1842,
