  • The late Baron De Freyne, in a letter addressed to the editor in 1865, stated,

"that in 1851 he was married, by a Roman Catholic clergyman to Miss Catherine Maree ; and, a question having arisen as to the validity of that marriage, she being a Roman Catholic and he a Protestant, they were again married in the Established Church." The issue of the first marriage is Charles, M.P. for co. Roscommon, b. 185), John, b. 1853, and William, b. 1854, and of the second, Arthur, Richard, Robert, and Mary.
