Arms,—Quarterly: 1st, argent, a pale, sable, Erskine; 2nd, azure, a bend, between six cross crosslets fitchée, or, Marr; 3rd, or, a fesse, cheeky, azure, and argent, Stuart of Kirkhill; 4th, argent, three bars gemelles, gules, surmounted by a lion rampant, sable, Fairfax. Crest.—A dexter arm embowed and grasping a club, proper. Supporters.Dexter, a heron, wings inverted, holding in the beak an eel, proper; sinister, a griffin, wings elevated, gules; each charged with a mullet for difference.

ERSKINE, Baron,—His lordship's predecessor was his father, David Montague, 2nd Baron Erskine, who was b. 1776; succeeded his father, Nov. 17, 1823; m. 1st, Jan. 3, 1800, Frances, daughter of General Cadwallader, of Philadelphia, (she d. 1843), having issue five sons and ten daughters; his lordship m. 2ndly, July 29, 1843, Ann Bond, daughter of John Travis, Esq. (she d. 1851); 3rdly, Dec. 21, 1852, Anna, widow of Thomas Calderwood Durham, Esq. and d. March 19, 1855, without issue from last marriages.


ERSKINE, Baroness,—Anna, daughter of William Cunninghame Cunninghame Graham, Esq. of Gartmore: m. 1st, Thomas Calderwood Durham, Esq. of Largo, (he d. 1842); 2ndly, 1852, as his 3rd wife, the 2nd Baron Erskine, (he d. 1855); 3rdly, 1856, as his 2nd wife, the Ven. John Sandford, B.D.,—who d. 1873,—Archdeacon of Coventry, and Rector of Alvechurch.
