- The Lords Gray have always claimed the dignity of Premier Baron in the Scottish
peerage. John, the llth Baron, in 1793, at the election for the Representative Peers of Scotland at Holyrood, claimed precedency over all other Barons, and strongly protested against Baron Forbes being called before himself. The precedence, however, has never been definitely settled.
