SEATON, Baron, His lordship's predecessor was his father, John Col- horne, P.C G C B. G.C.H. G.C.M.G. K.T.S. He was b. 1777 ; was educated at Winchester ; entered the Army, 1/95, served in Egypt, 1801, and afterwards throughout the Peninsular war ; at Waterloo his decisive movement with the 52nd Regiment had great influence on the fortunes of the day. He was a Field Marshal in the Army, Col. of the 2nd Life Guards, and Commander of the Forces. Filled the offices of Gov.-Gen. in Canada; Lieut.-Gov. of Upper Canada, and of Guernsey, Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Isles, and Com- mander of the Forces in Ireland. Was raised to the peerage in 1839: m. June 21, 1814, Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev. J. Yonge, of Puslinch, Devonshire, Rector of Newton Ferrers; and d. April 17, 1863, having had issue five sous and three daughters.
