SHEFFIELD, Earl of, His lordship's predecessor was his father, John Baker Holroyd, Esq. He was b. in 1735 ; was raised to the Irish peerage as Baron Sheffield of Dnnamore, 1781, and as Baron Sheffield of Roscommon, 1783 ; was made a Baron of the United Kingdom, 1802, and was further advanced in the Irish peerage to the Earldom ot Sheffield, 1806; was President of the Board of Agriculture, and of the Board of Trade : TO. 1st, 1767, Abigail, daughter of the late L. Way, Esq. of Richmond, Surrey, (she d. 1793), and by her had issue a son and two daughters; 2ndly, Dec. 26, 1794, Lady Lucy Pelham, daughter of the 1st Earl of Chichester, (she d. 1797), and by her had no issue ; 3rdly, Jan. 20, 1798, Lady Anne North, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Guilford, K.G.; and d. Simon Haughton, heir presumptive, b. 1811; was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge ; m. 1843, Mary Halton, 2nd daughter of Sir Simon Haugh- ton Clarke, 9th Bart., and has with other issue, Castel, R.N., *. 1844. Residence, Newton Abbot, Devonshire. Sister living, Emma, m. Thomas Crosthwait, Esq. of 9, Fitzwilliam-square East, Dublhi, a Magistrate for that city.
