Born Jan. 21st, 1811; educated at Christ Church, Oxford; created Hon. LL.D. of Cambridge, 1847, D.C.L. ot Oxford, 1856, and LL.D. of Dublin, 1868; was Groom of the Stole to the late Prince Consort, 184659, and Lord Lieut, of Ireland, 1866 8, to which office he was reappointed 1874; is Lord Lieut, of Donegal, Grand Master of the Masonic Order in Ireland, a Major-Gen, of the Royal Archers (the Queen's Body Guard of Scotland), Capt. London Scottish Rifle Volunteers, and a Governor of Harrow School : married (18oL5) Lady Louisa Jane Russell, 2nd daughter of the Gth Duke of Bedford, K.G., and has issue, living, Sons-, James, Marquess of Hamilton, M.P., b. 1838; educated at Harrow, and at Christ Church, Oxford, (B.A. I860, M.A. 1865); has been Hon. Col. of the Prince of Wales's Own Donegal Militia since I860; appointed a Lord of the Bedchamber to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, 1866; assisted to invest (as bearer of a portion of the Insignia) King Christian IX. of Denmark, with the Order of the Garter, accompanied H.R.H. the Prince of Wales to Rnssia, 1866; is a magistrate for co.
