There was one interesting point of difference between these two Archbishops. While Dr Thomson was absolutely impervious to criticism, Dr Benson was keenly affected by it, and this made him very cautious in his dealings with the press, sometimes making him to refuse information which might well have been given, and at other times leading him to create difficulties by unburdening his mind to a not over-scrupulous reporter."
