William Knight, LL.D., was admitted 7th Dec. 1529: void by the resignation of Winter ^^ He, being also archdeacon of Chester, (then in the diocese of Coventry and Lichfield,) resigned both dignities into the Kings's hands 20th May 1541, who there- upon incorporated them into his new-erected see of Chester, For the continuation of the Archdeacons of Richmond^ see Chester. ARCHDEACONS OF EAST-RIDING. William, filius Durandi, was an archdeacon in this diocese (supposed of the East- Riding) about 11309^. E. RuFFus was archdeacon of the East-Riding at an early period, though the exact time has not been made out ^7, Hugh Pudsey held it in 11 41. Godfrey de Lucy is supposed to have enjoyed this dignity in 11 89^8. In the same year he became bi- shop of Winchester. Walter of Wisbech bore this title in 1218^^; ho was witness to a deed dated in Octab. S. Joh. Bapt. 1225 ^ William, a canon of Thorney^ was possessed of it 24th June 1230'^.
