He died in 1626, and was buried in Carlisle cathedral. 1626 Francis White, dean of Carlisle, was consecrated 3rd 2 far. I. Dec. 1626-38, and was elected to Norwich 22nd Jan. 1628-9. 1629 Barxabas or Barnaby Potter, S.T.P., provost of 4 Car. I. Queen s college, Oxford, was consecrated at Ely-House, Holborn, 15th March J628— 9. He died in London in Jan. 164 1—2, and was buried in St. PauFs, Covent- Garden. 1642 James Usher, archbishop of Armagh^ had permission 1 7 Car. I. to hold the see of Carlisle in commendam ; and re- ceived the administration thereof i6th Feb. 1641-2. He died at Reigate 21st March 1656, and was buried in AYestminster Abbey on the 5th of the following month. The see icas vacant till the Restoration. A conge d'elire issued 9th Oct. 1660. 1660 Richard Sterne, S.T.P., master of Jesus college^ Cam- 1 2 Car. II. bridge, was elected, and obtained the royal assent 28th Nov. 1660; he was consecrated 2nd Dec. fol- lowing -^9^ on the 19th of which month he received the temporalities, and he was enthroned 4th Jan. fol- lowing. In 1664 he was translated to York. 1664 Edward Rainbow, S.T.P., dean of Peterborough, was 16 Car. II. consecrated loth July 1664, in the chapel of king Henry VH, at Westminster. He died 26th March 1684, setat. 76, and was buried 1st April at Dalston in Cumberland. 1684 Thomas Smith, S.T.P., dean of Carlisle, was elected 36 Car.
