BISHOrS. 261 1673 John Pearson, S.T P., archdeacon of Surrey and mas- 24 Car. II. ier of Trinity college^ Cambridge^ was consecrated 9th Feb. 1672-3, and died i6th July 1686. His will is dated 2nd Jan. 1677-8, and the codicil thereto i8th June 1685. 1686 Thomas Cartwright, S.T. P., dean ofRipon^ was con- 2 Jac. II. secrated at Lambeth 17th Oct. 1686 37. At the revo- lution he fled to France to James II, who conferred upon him the bishopric of Salisbury. He followed James into Ireland, where he died 15th April 1689, and was buried in Christ's church, Dubhn. 1689 Nicholas Stratford, S.T.P., dean of St. Asaph, was 1 Will. & Mar.nominated 22nd June 1689, and received the royal assent to his election j st Aug.^s ; was consecrated in the bishop of London's chapel at Fulham 15th Sept. 1689, and the temporalities were restored to him on the 23rd of that month. He died 12th Feb. 1706—7. Sir William Dawes, baronet, S.T. P., master of Ca- tharine hall, Cambridge, was consecrated 8th Feb. 1707-8 in Henry the Seventh's chapel at Westminster; and in Feb. 17 13-14 he was translated to York^^. Francis Gastrell, S.T. P., preacher at LincoMs Inn^ was consecrated in Somerset-house chapel 4th April I 714. He died 14th Nov. 1725, aetat. 6'^, and was buried in Christ Church, Oxford. Samuel Peploe, S.T. P., was consecrated at St. Mar- garet's, Westminster, on Tuesday 12th April 1726 ^o. He died 21st Feb. 1752. 1752 Edmund Keene was nominated 5th March 1752, and 25 Geo. II. wag elected on the 9th of the same month ; the royal assent was given to his election the next day^^ He was confirmed 2i8t March, and consecrated the next •7 Reg.
