DURHAM. X HIS diocese now contains the whole county of Durham and all Northumberland, eight churches or chapels, formerly known as Hexham peculiar and belonging to the archdiocese of York, having been annexed to it by order in council dated 22nd Dec. 1836. It is divided into three archdeaconries, Durham, Northumberland, and Lindisfarne^ The cathedral consists of a dean, twelve prebenda- ries or canons ^ &c. BISHOPS OF LINDISFARNE or HOLY ISLAND.
