John Roper, S.T.B., sometime fellow of Magdalen col- lege, was appointed in 1502. John Kynton, S.T.P. The time of his coming in ap- pears not, but he laid it down 5th Oct. 1530. William Mortimer, S.T.P., was elected loth Oct. ^530- Hugh Weston, S.T.P., rector of Lincoln college, suc- ceeded (as supposed) in 1540. Christopher Goodman, M.A., student of Christ Church, is called the next. Succeeded about 1548. John Smith, M.A., provost of Oriel college, was de- signed to this lecture in the latter end of 1553. Francis Babington, S.T.P., rector of Lincoln college, succeeded the latter end of the year 1560. Herbert Westfaling, S.T.B., canon of the fourth stall of Christ Church, succeeded in this professorship 1 6th Dec. 1562. He was afterwards bishop of Hereford. John Calfhill^^ S.T.B., canon of the second stall of Christ Churchy was elected 18th Feb. 1563. Edward Cradocke, M.A._, succeeded 24th Oct. 1565. He resigned in 1594. John Williams, S.T.B., fellow of All Souls college, succeeded 19th July 1594. He died in 1613. Sebastian Benefield, S.T.P.,felloic of Corpus Christi college, was elected 6th Sept. 1613, and resigned in 1626. Samuel Fell, S.T.P., canon of the second stall of Christ Church, was elected 8th Aug. 1626. Appointed by letters patent 5th July 1627'^^. He resigned loth March 1637.
