He was ejected by the Parhament visitors in 1649. John Wallis, M.A., afterwards S.T.P., felloio of Queen's college in Camhridge^ was appointed by the authority of the Parhament delegates 14th June 1649. He was after the Restoration confirmed in it by the proper electors. Ob. 28th Oct. 1703, setat. 87. Edmund Halley, D.C.L., succeeded in 1703. He w^as also astronomer royal at Greenwich. Ob. 1 741. Nathaniel Bliss, M.A., of Pembroke college^ elected i8th Feb. 1741—2. He was also astronomer royal at Greenwich. Baden Powell, M.A., of Oriel college, appointed in 1827. SAVILIAN PROFESSORS OF ASTRONOMY. Founded by sir Henry Savile nth Aug. 161926. John Bainbridge, M.D., of Merton college, was the first in this office, 9th Jan. 1620. He died 3rd Nov. 1643, and was buried on the left hand of Mr. Briggs, the first professor of geometry. John Greaves, M.A., fellow of Merton college, suc- ceeded 14th Nov. 1643. He was ejected by the Par- liament visitors 30th Oct. 1648. Setk Ward, M.A., sometime fellow of Sidney-Sussex college in Cambridge, was substituted by the dele- gates aforesaid in the year 1648, and after the Re- storation was confirmed by the proper electors, and resigned the same year.
