PEMBROKE COLLEGE. 579 MASTERS. Thomas Clayton, M.D., regius professor of medicine, was made the first master 29th June 1624, and ad- mitted 5th Aug. following. He died on the loth, and was buried in the church of St. Aldate, Oxford, 13th July 1647. Henry Wight wick, S.T.B., was elected 13th July 1647; ^"^ presently ejected by the Parliament-dele- gates. Henry Langley, M.A., (afterwards S.T.P.,) was sub- stituted by the same authority that ejected his prede- cessor 26th Aug. 1647, and confirmed 9th Oct. follow- ing ; but was obliged to quit it after the Restoration. Ob. lothSept. 1679, and buried in St. Helen's church, Abingdon. Henry Wightwick was restored 3rd Aug. 1660, and again ejected 21st Dec. 1664. John Hall, M.A., (afterwards S.T.P.,) was elected 31st Dec. 1664. He became bishop of Bristol in 169 1 ; but held this in commendam till his death, which happened in this college 4th Feb. 1709. He was bu- ried at Bromesgi'ove in Worcestershire. CoLWELL Brickenden, S.T.P., succeeded in 1709^3, Matthew Panting, S.T.P., 1714. John Ratcliffe, D.D., 1738. Ob. 13th July 1775.
