Wini, though educated in France, was a native of the island, and consequently familiar with the Saxon tongue. The bishopric of the West Saxons was thus divided into two sees ' — one con- tinued at Dorchester and the other was settled at A'inchester Aegilberht retired to France in disgust, and became bishop of Paris ^. 661 ^VI^'I or WiNA was ordained bishop in 661", but he was expelled from the see in the year 666, and purchased the bishopric of London from W^ulfhcri^.
