a Lord of Parliament, but a Laird,
whose title went with the estate.

which occur in the Ballad.
'Fay' faith—'God’s-pennies earnest mo-
ney Losealls,’—spendthrifts—'Red-
de,' testament, advice, counsel; or dy-
ing words—‘Rude,’ cross—
Wend,’ go—Wud,’ angry.
