Crimmins, John Daniel, contractor, was born May 18, 1844, in New York City. At the age of sixteen he entered into business with his father, who

was a

contractor.

The

business immediately increased; and in a few years he began to deal in real estate until between the age of twenty-five and thirty

young Crimmins was the largest dealer in real estate of any of his age in the City of New York. In the mean time his contract ing business had greatly increased, most of his work being done for corporations, estates and individuals. He laid the foundations for the Manhattan railway; built the electrical subway; has laid many miles of gas mains; built the tank foundations for various gas companies; and constructed the Broadway and the street railroads on Lexington, Lenox and Columbus avenues. He is also a director in various corporations in New York City. He has several times been chosen as arbitrator to settle strikes. Crisfield, John W., lawyer, congressman, was bom Nov. 6, 1808, in Kent county, Md. He was elected to the Maryland legislature in 1836. In 1850 he was a delegate to the state constitutional convention; in 1861 was

delegate to the peace congress; and in 1847-49 and 1861-63 he was a representative from Maryland to the thirtieth and thirtyseventh congresses. He died Jan 12, 1897, in Princess Anne, Md. a.

Crisp, Charles Frederick, soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Jan. 34, 1845, in England. He was a lieutenant in the coufederate army in 1861-64, when he was taken prisoner. In 1872-77 he was solicitor-general of the southwestern circuit; in 1877-82 wai judge of the superior court of the southwestern judicial circuit. In 1883-95 he was a. representative from Georgia to the fortyeighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth, flfty-first, fiftysecond and fifty-third congresses as a democrat; and in 1891-95 he was a speaker of the house to the fifty-second and fifty-third conjurist,

Henry, manufacturer, state senator, congressman, was born in 1764 in Virginia. He became extensively engaged in the manufacture of salt in Bullitt county, Ky. He was a member of the Kentucky legislature in 1795; a state senator in 1800-04; and in 1809-11 he was a representative from Kentucky to the eleventh congress. He died in 1844, in Bullitt county, Ky. Critchell, Robert S., naval officer, insurance president, was born in 1844 in England. While a boy he entered the Cincinnati office of the home insurance company of New York. During the civil war he served in the United States navy as a junior officer.
