Crowl, Theodore, soldier, clergyman, was born July 22, 1844, in Darlington, Pa. He served as a union soldier during the civil war in the one hundred and seventy-eighth regiment Ohio volunteer infantry; and was promoted to second lieutenant; and was judge advocate of general court martial United States army at TuUahoma and Murfreesboro during the winter of 1864-65. In 1873 he organized the First presbyterian church of Tacoma, Wash.; and has filled pastorates in Seattle, Wash.; Zanesville, Ohio; and is now pastor of the First congregational church of Sterling, 111. Crowley, Denis 0., clergyman, poet. He was elevated to the priesthood in 1883. He Chaplet of Verse. is the author of Crowley, Joseph Burns, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was bom July 19, 1858, in Coshocton, Ohio. In 1886-93 he was county judge of Crawford county. 111. Crowley, Matthias, soldier, was born in In 1891 he graduated from the United States military academy; in 1898 attained the rank of first lieutenant; and in 1900 became captain seventeenth infantry. Crowley, Miles, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born in 1859 in Boston, Mass. He was elected chief engineer of the Galveston fire department for two terms; was a member of the Texas house of representatives; and a state senator in the twenty-third and twenty-fourth legislatures. In 1895-97 he was a representative from Texas to the fifty-fourth congress as a democrat. Crowley, Kichard, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was bom Deo. 14, 1836, in Lockport, N.Y. He was city attorney in 1865; was a state senator in 1866-70; was United States district attorney in 1871-79, when he resigned. In 1879-83 he was a representative from New York to the fortysixth and forty-seventh congresses as a republican. He died in 1908 in Lockport, N.Y. Crownin shield, Arent Schuyler, naval officer, was born March 14, 1843, in New York City. He was attached to the steam sloop Ticonderoga and participated in both attacks on Fort Fisher. In 1814-18 he was secretary of the navy. He died Feb. 3, 1851, in Boston, Mass. Crownin&hield, Bowdoin Bardlee, naval architect, author, was born Oct. 13, 1867, in New York City. Since 1887 he has been in practice as a, naval architect. He was the architect of the yacht Independence; and the largest sailing vessel Thomas W. Lawson. He is the author of An Account of the
Private Armed Ship America. Crowninshield, Casper, soldier, was bom in Massachusetts. In 1861 he was captain in the twentieth regiment Massachusetts volunteer infantry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. He died Jan. 10, 1897.
