In 1887 he received the thanks of General George Crook in a general order for the capture of an Indian village. Cummings, Mrs. Justelle, poet, was born Dec. 19, 1848, in Falmouth, Maine. She is the author of Faithe, a Story of Falmouth, in verse. She is the widow of the late Isaac L. Cummings, a noted physician of Falmouth,

His ability as an architectural writer was recognized and honored by the Rochester university with the degree of A.M. He was the designer of the Troy state house, the Troy court house, Troy high school and many other prominent buildings in that city. He was the author of Cummings' Architectural Details; Sanctum Shots; and part author of Architectural and Modern Architecture. He died Sept. 1, 1905, in Vineyard Haven, Mass. Cununings, Melvin Earl, educator, sculptor, artist, was born Aug. 13, 1876, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has designed numerous statues near San Francisco, Gal. Among them are the statue of Robert Burns and the conservatory fountain. In 1905 he became professor of sculpture in the Mark Hopkins institute of art.

Cummings, Moses, clergyman, journalist, was born about 1816 in Haverhill, Mass. In 1854-62 he had editorial control of The Christian Messenger and The Palladium,

nesburg. Pa. He began the practice of law in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1896-1900 he was a member of the republican national committee. In 1901-07 he was governor of Iowa. In 1907 he was elected a member of the United States senate for the term ending in 1915.

Cummins, Ebenezer Harlow, clergyman, was born about 1790 in North Carolina. For several years he served legislator, author,

in the state legislature of Georgia; sequently entered the marine corps.

studied theology; and after settling in Baltimore became a magistrate. He was author of Geography of Alabama and History of the Late War.

Cummins, Francis, educator, clergyman, was born in 1732 near Shippensburg, Pa. He filled the office of pastor to twenty parishes in different localities in Georgia and the Carolinas. In 1778 he was a member of the South Carolina convention held to decide upon the constitutiop of the United States, and voted for its adoption. He died' Feb. 32, 1832, in Greensborough, Ga.

Cummins, George David, bishop, was born Dec. 11, 1822, in Smyrna. While rector of Trinity church of Chicago, he was consecrated assistant bishop of Kentucky in 1866. In 1873 he resigned his office in the episcopal church, and became a member of what is known as the reformed episcopal church. His low church views were decided, and he took occasion to censure present ritualistic tendency and proceedings of some of the churches in the see of Kentucky. He died June 26, 1876, in Baltimore county, Md.
