He was director of numerous banks and financial corporations. He died Sept. 6, 1896, in New York City. Darling, Charles Hial, lawyer, jurist, was born May 9, 1859, in Woodstock, Vt. For fifteen years he was municipal judge; in 1896-97 Avas a member of the Vermont assembly; in 1901-05 was assistant secretary navy; and since 1905 collector of customs. Darling, Charles Kimball, soldier, lawyer, public official, was born June 28, 1864, in Corinth, Vt. He was educated at the academy at Barre, Vt.; attended Dartmouth college and graduated from the Boston university law school. In 1897-1900 he was instructor of criminal law at the Boston university law school. In 1893 he was major in the sixth regiment Massachusetts United States volunteers; in 1887-1905 was adjutant, major and colonel in the sixth regiment Massachusetts volunteer militia; and is now a retired brigadier-general of the Massachusetts volunteer militia. In 1897-98 he was commander-in-chief of the sons of veterans United States of America; and in 1905-08 was a member of the board of visitors of the Boston university law school. In 1899-1908 he was United States marshal for Massachusetts; and since 1S08 has been clerk of the United States circuit court of appeals for the first district; and resides in Concord.
