Denny, James W., soldier, educator, congressman, was born in 1843 in Virginia. He enlisted in company A, thirty-ninth Virginia battalion of cavalry, in which company he served until in 1863 he was detailed for service at General E,. E. Lee's headquarters, where he continued until the surrender at Appomattox Court House. Since 1868 he has practiced law in Baltimore, Md. He was a member of the house of delegates of Maryland in 1888; and Governor Jackson conferred on him the rank of colonel on his staff. In 1899-1901 and 1903-05 he was a representative from Maryland to the fifty-, and fifty-eighth congresses. Denny, Thomas, banker, founder, was born in 1804 in Leicester, Mass. Denslow, William Wallace, illustrator, artist, author, was born May 5, 1856, in Philadelphia, Pa. He studied art at the national academy of design of New York City. Since 1872 he has been a newspaper artist and book illustrator, and has traveled all over the United States engaged in that profession, for the principal American newspapers.
