He edited Good's Study of Medicine; translated Maygrier's Midwifery; Dupuytren's Surgery; Lugol's Scrofulous Diseases; Vaylis's Descriptive Anatomy; Blandin's Topographical Anatomy; and Ricord's Syphilis; Chaussier on The Arteries; and Scoutetten on Cholera. He died Jan. 37, 1853, on Staten Island, N.Y. Doane, George Hobart, prelate, author, was born Sept. 5, 1830, in Boston, Mass. He took orders as deacon of the protestant episcopal church; but in 1855 entered the roman catholic church, becoming a priest in 1857. He has been a prelate of the papal household at Rome since 1886, with the title of monsignore. He is the author of First Principles; Exclusion of Protestant Worship from Rome; and Manual of Instructions and Prayers. Doane, George Washington, bishop, author, poet, was born May 37, 1799, in Trenton, N. J. He was consecrated second protestant episcopal bishop of New Jersey in 1832. He was the author of Songs by the Way; and Sermons on Various Occasions. The familiar hymn beginning Softly now the light of day is one of his most noted poems. He died April 27, 1859. In 1868 he graduated in law from the Albany law school of New York. He was at once admitted to the bar of the supreme court of New York; in 1869 to the bar of the supreme court of Missouri; and subsequently to the bar of the supreme court of Arizona. In 1894-96 he was district attorney for Pinal county, Ariz.; and became one of the foremost lawyers of that state. Since 1897 he has been an associate justice of the state supreme court and judge of the second judicial district of Arizona. Dean, Robert E., journalist, lawyer, congressman, was born in Clinton county, Ohio. He was editor of the Wilmington Watchman in 1859-60; and was appointed prosecuting attorney for Clinton county in 1862.
