Draper,
Daniel, meteorologist, inventor, was born April 2, 1841, in New York City. He has invented numerous self-recording instruments, including the photographic barograph and thermographs, the pencil gauges for rain and snow, for direction of the wind, and for the velocity and force of the wind.
Draper, Eben Sumner, manufacturer, congressman, was born June 17, 1858, in Hopedale, Mass. He was educated in Allen's school of West Hopedale at Newton, Mass., and the Massachusetts institute of technology. In 1898, through the Massachussets volunteer aid association, he raised two hundred thousand dollars for the hospital ship Bay State in the Spanish-American war. In 1900 he was a republican presidential elector. In 1909-10 he was governor of Massachusetts. Draper, George Otis, manufacturer, author, was born July 14, 1867, in Hopedale, Mass. He is one of the largest manufacturers of cotton machinery in this country. He has made over eighty patents and one of the

While on a, trip through Europe his attention was attracted toward astronomy and astronomical photography; and on his return to the United States built the observatory at Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. He was the author of The Construction of a Silvered Glass Telescope; and Text-Book of Chemistry. He died Nov. 20, 1882, in New

Draper, John Christopher, physician, scientist, author, was born on March 31, 1835, in Mecklenburg county, Va. He was professor of chemistry in the university of New York City. He was the author of Text-Book in Anatomy; Physiology and Hygiene; Practical Laboratory Course in Physics; and
Text-Book of Medical Physics. He died Dec. 20, 1885, in
New York
City.
Draper, John William, educator, scientist, author, was born May 5, 1811, near Liverpool, England. In 1839-81 he was connected with the university of New York. He was the author of History of the Civil War in America; History of the Intellectual Development of Europe; The Future Civil Policy of America; Human Physiology; Elements of Chemistry; Text-Book of Natural Philosophy; Text-Book on Physiology; also ReScientific Actino-Chemistry; searches in Memoirs; and History of the Conflict between Religion and Science. He died Jan. 1882, in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.

cotton machinery and has made and patented many improvements in such machinery. He was president of the Home market club in 1891-92; was a delegate to the republican national convention in 1876; and was colonel on staff of Governor Long in 1880-83. He was a candidate for governor before the republican state convention of 1888; and chosen presidential elector at large the same year. In 1893-97 he was a representative from Massachusetts to the fifty-third and fifty-fourth congresses as a republican, and declined a reelection. In 1897-99 he was ambassador to Italy. Draper, William H., manufacturer, congressman, was born June 34, 1841, in Worcester county, Mass. Since 1847 he has resided in Troy, N.Y., and was educated there.
He
is now engaged in manufacturing cordage and twine under the firm name of William H. Draper and son. In 1896-1900 he was commissioner of jurors of Rensselaer county, N.Y. In 1901-11 he was a representative from New York to the fifty-seventh,
