He taught public school for four years; and for four years was county superintendent of public instruction for Coleman county, Texas. For two terms he was county surveyor of Coleman county,

Since 1900 he has been professor of history in Tufts college of Massachusetts. He is the author of Writings of George Washington; and is the editor of two series of Handbooks of American Government and Writings of American Statesmen. Evans, Lawton Bryan, educator, lecturer, author, was born Oct. 27, 1862, in Lumpkin, Ga. Since 1882 he has been superintendent of the public schools of Atlanta, Ga. He is the author of a History of Georgia; A History of the United States; and a work entitled Lectures on School Supervision. Evans, Lemuel D., congressman, was born in Tennessee. In 1855-57 he was a representative from Texas to the thirty-fourth congress. He died in Texas. Evans, Lewis, surveyor, author, was bom about 1700.
