Fairfield, Sumner Lincoln, educator, author, poet, was born June 25, 1803, in Warwick, Mass. He was the author of Abaddon, the Spirit of Destruction; Lays of Melpomene; The Sisters of St. Clara; Cities of the Plain; The Heir of the World; The Last Night of Pompeii; Poems and Prose Writings; and Select Poems. He died March 6, 1844, in New Orleans, La.
Fairhead, John Sterling, soldier, lumber manufacturer, was bofn Dec. 23, 1841, in New Hartford, N.Y. He served for three years during the civil war in the one hundred and seventeenth New York volunteer infantry.

For three terms he was president of the board of trade of Jacksonville, Fla.; has been president of the river and harbor trustees; is a stockholder and officer in the Citizen's bank of Jacksonville ; a large property owner and is a staunch republican. Fairfax, Donald Macneill, naval officer, was born Aug. 10, 1822, in Virginia. He served in the United States navy during the civil war; and for gallant and meritorious services attained the rank of rear admiral in the United States navy. He died Jan. 10, 1894, in Hagerstown, Md. Fairfield, Edmund Burke, clergyman, statesman, author, was born Aug. 7, 1821, in Parkersburg, Va. In 1845-47 he preached at Canterbury, N.H. Fairlamb, James Remington, musician, composer, was born Jan. 23, 1837, in Philadelphia, Pa. Between 1867 and 1880 he was successively director of the music in different churches in Washington, D.C. He was called to a, similar office in the church of the ascension, New York City, and a year later to that of St. Ignatius. His published works, chiefly sacred compositions and songs, number nearly a hundred, exclusive of Valerie and Leonello, two operas. His best songs are Little Blue Pigeon, and Unfurl the Starry Flag. Fairlamb, John Franklin, railroad manager, was born Nov. 12, 1855, near Philadelphia, Pa. In 1874 he entered railway service; and since 1890 has been auditor of passenger accounts of the New York central
