Foraker, Joseph Benson, soldier, lawyer, governor, United States senator, was bom Jul}' 5, 1846, near Rainsboro, Highland county, Ohio. He enlisted in 1862 as a private in company A, eighty-ninth regiment Ohio volunteer infantry. He served until the close of the war, at which time he held the rank of first lieutenant and brevet captain.

ed judge of the superior court of Cincinnati in 1879; and resigned on account of ill-health in 1S82. Foraker, Samuel C, banker, congressman, was born March 16, 1821, in Mount Holly, N.J. He was cashier of the Bordentown bankiifg company. In 1871-73 he was a representative to the forty-second congress. He died in 1900 in Bordentown, N.J.

Forbes, Charles Edward,

.lawyer, jurist, 25, 1795, in Bridgewater, Mass. He practiced law in Northampton, Mass.; was a member of the state legislature in 1826; and justice of the supreme court in 1848. He left an estate of three hundred thousand dollars, most of which he bequeathed to establish a public library in Northampton. He died Feb. 13, 1881, in Northampton, Mass.

Forbes, Charles Henry, educator, author, 27, 1866, in Providence, R. I. Since 1894 he has been professor of latin at Phillips academy of Andover, Mass. In 1907-08 he was president of the classical association of New England. He is the author of Eight Orations of Cicero; School Cicero; and other works. Forbes, Edwin, journalist, artist, was bom in 1839 in New York City. He was a noted war artist and correspondent. Some of his paintings are Early Morning in an Orange County Pasture; Roughing; On the Meadows; and Evening in the Sheep Pasture. He died March 6, 1895, in New York
