Wall Street. He died Sept. 18, 1881, in Durham, Conn. Fowles, James H., clergyman, was born in 1813 in Nassau, N.Y. He preached in South Carolina till 1845 when he succeeded StephHe died in en H. He is president of the Chicago lumbering company; and is also president of the Manistique and northwestern railway. Fox, Andrew Fuller, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born April 26, 1849, in Clay county, Miss. He was elected state senator in 1891; and in 1893-96 was United States attorney for the northern district of Mississippi. In 1897-1903 he was a representative to the fifty-fifth, fifty-sixth and fifty-seventh congresses as a democrat. Fox, Charles James, soldier, merchant, lumberman, was bom in 1842. In 1861 he graduated from Union college. He served in the civil war as lieutenant, captain, and major of the one hundred and seventh regiment New York volunteers. He is secretary of the Chicago lumbering company. Fox, Charles James, physician, surgeon, author, was bom Dec. 21, 1854, in Weathersfield, Conn. He was a graduate from the Hartford high school; and received his diploma in 1876 with high honors from the New York university medical college. He has been physician-in-chief of the Hartford hospital; and surgeon-general for the state of Connecticut. He has been vice-president of the Connecticut state medical society; president of the Windham county medical society; member of the American medical association; and a member of the International medical congress. He has a successful practice in Willimantic, Conn.; has been a member of the Windham county examining board for pensions; and a member of the association of military surgeons of the

United States. He is medical examiner for the Mutual, New York Life, Manhattan Life, Travelers, Aetna Life and various other insurance companies. He is a thorough student in his professional and literary works; is a contributor to state, national

and international medical journals; and his writings have received marked and widespread attention. Fox, Charles Kemble, actor, was born Aug. 15, 1833, in Boston, Mass. His first appearance in New York was made at the old National theater in 1853 as Cute in Uncle Tom's Cabin. He died Jan. 17, 1875.

Fox, Charles Nelson, lawyer, jurist, was born March 9, 1839, in Detroit, Mich. He began practice in San Francisco. In 188990 he was associate justice of the supreme court of California.

Fox, Delia, actress, was born Oct. 13, 1873, in St. Louis, Mo. She has played leading comedy parts in the DeWolf opera company and in Lillian Russell's opera company; and since 1900 has appeared chiefly in vaudeville.

Fox, Ebenezer, author, was born in 1763 East Koxbury, Mass. He was postmaster of Boston in 1830-36. He was the author of The Revolutionary Adventures of Ebenezer Fox. He died in 1843 in East Roxbury, Mass. Fox, Edward, lawyer, jurist, was born in Maine. He was a resident of Portland; and in 1866 was appointed United States district judge for the district of Maine. In 1863-63 he was associate justice of the supreme court of Maine. He died Dec. 14, 1881, in Portland, Maine. Fox, Elias Williams, journalist, publisher, statesman, was bom Oct. 38, 1838, in Buffalo, N.Y. He was the first president of the St. Louis board of trade; in 1865 was a member of the Missouri legislature. In 1885 he became editor and proprietor of The National Republic of Washington, D.C. Fox, Frances Margaret, writer, author, was born June 33, 1870, in Framingham, Mass. She is a writer of short stories for children at Bay City, Mich. She is the author of Farmer Brown and the Birds; and What Gladys Saw. Fox, George, founder, was born in July, 1634, in England. He was the founder of the Society of friends, commonly called Quakers. He died Nov. 13, 1690. in London, England. Fox, George Henry, soldier, physician, author, was born Oct. 8, 1846, in Ballston Spa, N.Y. He enlisted in the seventy-seventh New York volunteers. He has been president of New York state medical society. He has_ been unusually successful in the adaptation of new photographic processes to the illustration of medical works; and has published Photographic Illustrations of Skin Diseases; Photographic Illustrations of Cutaneous Syphilis; Illustrated Medicine and Surgery; and Atlas of Skin Diseases.
