In 1861 he was assistant engineer in public works; and in 1862-63 was director of the western district of the public works on the island of Porto Rico. In 186364 he was assistant engineer in the Croton aqueduct of New York City; and in 1864-69 was engineer to the Croton aqueduct board. In 187071 he was engineer in chief of the United States ship canal expedition to Tehuantepec and Nicaragua; and in 1871-73 was consulting engineer in New York City. In 1873-90 he was dean of the department of civil engineering of Cornell university; and in 1890 became director of the college of civil engineering at the same university. He died in 1903 in Ithaca, N.Y.

publican. Fuller, Andrew S., horticulturist, journalist, author, was born in 1828, in New York. He was editor of Woodward's Record of Horticulture. He was the author of The Fruit Tree Culturist; The Grape Culturist; The Small Fruit Culturist; The Strawberry Culturist; Practical Forestry; The Propagation of Plants; and The Nut Culturist. He died in 1896 in New York City. Fuller, Anna, author, was born Nov. 9, 1853, in Cambridge, Mass. She was the author of Pratt Portraits; Literary Courtship; Peak and Prairie; Venetian June; Katharine Day; and Bookful of Girls. Fuller, Arthur Buckminster, soldier, clergyman, author, was born Aug. 10, 1823, in

His courage, enthusiasm, and sympathy for the men of his regiment had greatly endeared him to them. He edited several of his sister's works.
