Gary, James Albert, manufacturer, cabinet officer, was born Oct. 22, 1833, in Uncasville, Conn. He became a partner with his father in the Alberton cotton mills in 1861; his father dying in 1870 he succeeded to the head of the business, and has conducted it since. He has been a delegate to five national republican conventions; and is vicepresident of the citizens national bank of Baltimore. In 1897-98 he was postmastergeneral.
