Genth, Frederick Augustus, educator, author, was born May 17, 1820, in Germany. He was a professor of chemistry at the university of Pennsylvania in 1872-93. He was the author of Ammonia Cobalt Bases; Minerals of North Carolina; and First and

Second Preliminary Reports on the Mineralogy of Pennsylvania. He died in 1893 in Pennsylvania. Genth, Frederick A., chemist, scientist, was born Feb. 12, 1855, in Philadelphia, Pa., and is a son of the late Dr. Frederick A. uenth. In 1883-88 he was assistant professor of chemistry at the university of Pennsylvania. Since 1888 he has been engaged in general practice as an analytical and expert chemist of Philadelphia, Pa.; and acted as chemist to the state pharmaceutical examining board of Pennsylvania. Genthe, Karl Wilhelm, educator, naturalist, author, was born June 5, 1871, in Germany. In 1846 he came to the United States and established himself as a maker and repairer of violins in Springfield, Mass.; and later went to New York City. His instruments were used and praised by all great artists; and his copy of Sarasate's Amati was pronounced by the owner equal to the original. He died Sept. 7, 1895, in New York City.
