He was educated in the public schools of LaCrosse, Wis.; attended Galesville university; and in 1871 graduated from the university of Wisconsin. Since 1874 he has been a law bookseller; and since 1895 has been president of the Statute law book company of Washington, D.C. He has been engaged in the business of manufacturing and dealing in plantation machinery over thirty years. He was active in the organization of the World's Industrial and Cotton centennial exposition; was one of the organizers of the first electric lighting company established in New Orleans and served as vicepresident and afterward as president. He served two terms as president of the New Orleans chamber of commerce; New Orleans Mexican exchange; and was elected in 1888 one of the vice-presidents of the national board of trade.
