Gray, Alfred G., naval officer, was born in 1818, in Norfolk, Va. In 1865 he entered the service of the Pacific mail steamship company, by whom he was made commodore in 1874. Died Nov. 10, 1S76, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Gray, Alonzo, educator, author, was born Feb. 21, 1808, in Townsend, Vt. In 1845 he became a teacher in the Brooklyn heights female academy ; and six years later founded the Brooklyn heights female seminary, of which he was principal until his death. He was the author of Elements of Chemistry; Elements of Scientific and Practical Agriculture; and Elements of Natural Philosophy. He died March 10, 1860, in Brooklyn,

Gray, Baron DeKalb, educator, clergyman, college president, was born June 18, 1855, in Waynesboro, Miss. In 1893-1901 he was pastor of the first baptist church of Birmingham, Ala. In 1898-1901 he was president of the board of trustees of Howard college; and since 1901 has been president of Georgetown college of Kentucky. Gray, David, journalist, poet, was born Nov. 9, 1836, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was a journalist of Buffalo; and on the editorial staff of The Courier in 1856-82. He was the author of a volume of poems. He died March 18, 1888, in Binghamton, N.Y. Gray, David, journalist, lawyer, author, was born Aug. 8, 1870, in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1897 he was managing' editor of Buffalo Center. He is the author of The Sphinx; and Gallops, a volume of sketches.
