He was an English writer of French descent; came to America in 1868; and was for many years a dealer in Japanese curios in New York City. He was the author of the dramas Vendome, and Mirah; Blue Jackets, a novel; The Golden Lotus ; the juvenile tales. Young Americans in Japan; The Wonderful City of Tokio; The Bear Worshippers of Yezo; and translations from the Japanese of the novels, The Loyal Ronins; and The Captive of Love. He died Oct. 1, 1888, in England. Gregg, Alexander, clergyman, bishop, auwas born Oct. 8, 1819, in Society Hill, He was the first protestant episcopal bishop of Texas in 1859. Gregg, Andrew, educator, congressman, United States senator, was born June 10, 1755, in Carlisle, Pa. In 1791-1807 he was a representative from Pennsylvania in the second to the ninth congresses. In 1816 he was appointed secretary of state of Pennsylvania. He died May 20, 1835, at Bellefonte. Pa. Gregg, David, clergyman, author, was born March 25, 1846, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He has filled pastorates in the presbyterian churches in Iowa, Massachusetts and New York. Gregg, David McMurtrie, soldier, diplomat, 10, 1833, in Huntingdon, Pa. He served in the campaign of 1858-60 against the Indians and in the civil war attained the rank of brigadier-general. He subsequently was made adjutant-general of Pennsylvania at Reading. In 1874 he was United States consul at Prague; and in 1891 was auditor-general of Pennsylvania.

He was educated in the public schools and in 1862 he graduated from the medical department of the university of Michigan. He served in the civil war; and was assistant surgeon of the twenty-fifth regiment Michigan volunteer infantry. He has become prominent in his profession at Whittaker, Mich.; and has taken a prominent part in the business and public affairs in his city, county and state He is a member of several medical and scientific societies; and examining physician for various insurance, fraternal and patriotic orders.
