He came to America with his parents in 1851; and received his education in the public schools of Taunton, Mass. In 1869 he graduated from Montreal seminary, and was ordained priest in 1872. From that time he filled various pastorates, and is now rector of the Catholic university of Washington, B.C. He has filled numerous positions of honor in his church; has contributed extensively to religious literature; and founded and for four years edited the Catholic School and Home Magazine. Concanen, Luke, clergyman, bishop, was born in Ireland. He was interested in the missions of America; and to some extent was the founder of the Dominican convent of St. Rose in Kentucky, which he sustained by his contributions to the end of his life. In 1808 he was created first bishop of New York. He died in 1810 in Italy. Concilio, Gennaio Luigi Vincenzo De, clergyman, author, was born in 1835 in Italy. In 1867 he engaged in the manufacture of knit goods in Oswego ; and through inventions and processes of his own has developed a large and successful industry. He has taken out about twenty-five patents, all utilized in his own shops. Condict, George Herbert, electrical engineer, inventor, was bom March' 7, 1863, in Newark, N.J. He has built gas works in California and Oregon. He has invented an improved controller, which has been an important factor in electric railway development. Condict, Ira, educator, clergyman, was bom Feb. 21, 1764, in Orange, N.J. It was chiefly through his eflForts that Rutgers college, which had been closed for several years, was reopened in 1807. In 1809 he was reguularly appointed professor of moral philosophy and vice-president, having declined the presidency. He died June 1, 1811, in New Brunswick, N.J. Condict, John, surgeon, congressman, United States senator, was bom in 1755. He was a member of the New Jersey legislature for several years; and in 1799-1803 he was a representative from New Jersey to the sixth and seventh congresses. In 1803-17 he was United States senator. He was a physician and medical writer of Philadelphia. He was the author of Course of Examination for Medical Students; Catechism of Health; Epidemic Cholera; and Diseases of Children. He died March 31, 1875, in Delaware county. Pa. Condit, Blackford, clergyman, author, was born Aug. 6, 1829, in Sullivan county, Ind. y^Tien he was three years old his parents settled in Terre Haute, Ind. In 1856 he was licensed by the Presbytery of Cincinnati, Ohio; and for awhile U, ?S was pastor of the Fulton street presbyterian church of Cincinnati, Ohio. In 186875 he was pastor of the second presbyterian church of Terre Haute, Ind. In 187196 he was trustee of Wabash college; and in 1875-95 was stated clerk of the Vincennes presbytery. He was the author of The History of the English Bible; Short Studies of Familiar Bible Texts; and History of Early Terre Haute. He died in 1903 in Terre Haute, Ind. Condon, Thomas, clergyman, geologist, author, was born March 3, 1822, in Ireland. In 1852-62 he preached in Oregon. He was the first discoverer that the horse was indigenous to this continent. In 1872-76 he was state geologist. He was the author of The Two Islands. Cone, Helen Gray, educator, author, poet, was born March 8, 1859, in New York City.
