COMMONLY CALLED THE
PRETENDER.
PRINCE CHARLES STUART, commonly called
the PRETENDER, was born at Rome, on the 20th. of December, 1720. When he had attained the age of seven years he was plaeed under the tui- tion of an Irish Gentleman. of the name of Sher- idan, a Roman Catholie. And as he advaneed in years he not only displayed an unusual vivacity of spirit, but also manifested a great genius form- ed for Millitary taeties. When about the age of fourteen, he was present at the Siege of Gieta, where he behaved so well, though only a youth, as fully justified the high opinion held of his cour- age and intrepidity.
